Core Destruction
Core Destruction
The Core Destruction mechanic is a key gameplay event in Bunch o' Sculk. When a Sculk Core or Super Sculk Core is destroyed, it triggers a devastating chain reaction that eliminates nearby sculk life and converts the surrounding area.
What Happens
When a Sculk Core is destroyed, the following sequence occurs:
- Explosions and tremors — Multiple explosions and thunder sounds play, accompanied by intense camera shake
- Knockback wave — A powerful knockback entity is summoned, pushing all nearby players and mobs away
- Sculk mob elimination — All sculk mobs within a 14-block radius are instantly killed
- Block conversion — All active sculk blocks in the area are converted to their dead variants
Prepare Yourself
The explosions and knockback are powerful. Make sure you have solid footing and enough health before destroying a core.
Block Conversions
| Active Block | Converts To |
|---|---|
| Sculk | Dead Sculk |
| Sculk Catalyst | Dead Sculk Catalyst |
| Sculk Sensor | Dead Sculk Sensor |
| Sculk Shrieker | Dead Sculk Shrieker |
| Sculk Trap | Dead Sculk Trap |
| Sculk Vein | Dead Sculk Vein |
| Sculk Tendriles | Removed entirely |
Super Sculk Core
The Super Sculk Core triggers the same sequence but with approximately double the radius of effect, making it far more impactful.
Strategic Uses
Clearing Strategy
If you find yourself overwhelmed by sculk mobs, locating and destroying the nearest Sculk Core can clear out an entire area at once. The dead blocks left behind are safe to walk on and won't spawn new sculk creatures.
- Area clearing — Destroy a core to neutralize a dangerous sculk zone
- Resource gathering — Dead sculk blocks can be mined for Dead Sculk, a decorative building material
- Safe passage — Converted areas no longer spawn sculk mobs
