Movement Detection
How Sculk Mobs Detect You
All Sculk mobs in Bunch o' Sculk use a unique movement-based detection system. Unlike most Minecraft mobs that detect players by proximity, Sculk creatures only react to movement and vibrations.
Detection Range
Sculk mobs can detect moving entities within a 20-block radius. Standing still or sneaking makes you invisible to them.
How It Works
Sculk mobs have two states:
Calm State
- The mob is dormant and will not attack
- Plays idle animations and ambient sounds
- Ignores players who are standing still or sneaking
Angry State
- Triggered when a player moves within 20 blocks
- The mob activates and begins pursuing the target
- Plays activation sound effects
- Will attack any moving entity that isn't part of the sculk family
Which Mobs Use This System
| Mob | Detection Range | Special Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sculk Mite | 20 blocks | Fastest response time |
| Sculk Lurker | 20 blocks | Size variants don't affect range |
| Sculk Sentry | 20 blocks | Boss mob, most dangerous |
| Sculkling | 20 blocks | Only in Stage 3 evolution |
| Sculkling Witch | 20 blocks | Only in Stage 3 evolution |
How to Avoid Detection
- Sneak (crouch) — Sneaking players are completely invisible to sculk mobs
- Wear Soft Sculk Boots — These boots dampen your vibrations, making sculk mobs ignore you even when walking normally
- Stand still — Sculk mobs only detect moving entities
- Use the Sculk Radar — Helps you locate sculk mobs before they detect you
Pro Tip
The Sculk Radar beeps faster as you get closer to sculk entities. Use it to scout ahead while sneaking, then plan your approach.
Entities That Are Ignored
Sculk mobs will never target:
- Other sculk family members (mites, lurkers, sentries, sculklings)
- Players wearing Soft Sculk Boots (walking normally)
- Players who are sneaking
- Entities that are not moving
