The Sculkling is a unique hostile mob that evolves through 3 stages after spawning. It starts as a passive, frightened creature and gradually transforms into a dangerous hunter.

Evolution Stages

Stage 1 — Dormant (0–10 seconds)

  • The Sculkling spawns in a passive state
  • Behaves like a villager — hides in beds, opens doors
  • Avoids players at 8 blocks
  • Will not attack under any circumstances

Stage 2 — Awakening (10–20 seconds)

  • Gains 50 HP and begins to show aggression
  • Deals 4 damage on contact
  • Displays panic behavior — alternates between fleeing and attacking
  • Plays sculk activation sounds

Stage 3 — Hunter (20+ seconds)

  • Fully hostile with 60 HP and 6 damage
  • Uses movement-based detection at 20-block range
  • Delayed attack with 1.5x reach
  • Targets players, snow golems, and iron golems
  • Breaks vegetation while pursuing

Kill Them Early

Sculklings are weakest in Stage 1 when they won't fight back. If you spot one, eliminate it before it evolves into a full-threat hunter.

Spawning

Sculklings are found in village-like structures in the Deep Dark. They behave as dwellers, inhabiting structures and interacting with doors and beds.

Drops

Standard mob drops plus experience.
