Spawning

Sculk Sentries spawn naturally near Sculk Cores in the Deep Dark. They have size variants at 75%, 100%, or 125% scale, randomly assigned on spawn.

Behavior

The Sculk Sentry uses movement-based detection with a 20-block range. It has two distinct combat modes:

Melee Mode (Close Range)

When a target is within 8 blocks, the Sentry attacks with a powerful delayed melee strike:

  • Damage: 80 per hit
  • Reach: 1.1x normal
  • Breaks crops, leaves, flowers, and other vegetation while moving

Ranged Mode (Long Range)

When a target is 8+ blocks away, the Sentry switches to ranged attacks:

  • Fires 3-burst salvos of sculk projectiles
  • Each projectile deals 4 damage on impact with knockback
  • Projectiles that hit the ground spawn a Sculk Mite after a short delay

Minion Spawning

The Sentry's ranged attack spawns Sculk Mites on impact. If you stay at range too long, you'll be swarmed by mites while dodging projectiles.

Knockback Roar

When the Sentry takes damage, it has a chance to perform a Knockback Roar:

  • Summons a knockback entity with 6 damage and 5 knockback strength in a 5-block radius
  • 1 in 6 chance of triggering on each hit received
  • Other times, applies Slowness to itself briefly

Strategy

  1. Stay mid-range — Too close means 80-damage melee hits. Too far means ranged projectiles that spawn mites
  2. Bring Soft Sculk Boots — These prevent other sculk mobs from joining the fight
  3. Clear mites quickly — Don't let ranged projectile mites accumulate
  4. Watch for the roar — When the Sentry takes damage, be ready to brace against knockback
  5. Destroy the core after — Killing the Sentry doesn't destroy the core. Use Core Destruction to clear the area
